Nepal in the News - Corona spreaded from students, not from tribes
Udaypur. Minister for Social Development Jeevan Ghimire has made an appearance in Triyuga Municipality-3 Bhulke of Udaipur for the first time on behalf of the state. He discussed with the stakeholders about the post-infection situation, prevention, control efforts and other problems of the locals. Eleven people, including people's representatives, administration, security forces and health workers, briefed Minister Ghimire on the latest developments.
Responding to a question raised during the two-and-a-half-hour discussion, he said the state government was about to reach a final decision on where the infection spread from. He said, "We are coming to the conclusion that the infection was spread by one of the people who came back from UP after studying Urdu in UP, India." Ghimire claimed that they were not convinced that the 12 tribes from India had brought the infection.
He said that a micro-study had shown that the infection had spread to five members of the youth's family from India. "We have come to the conclusion that the infection is spread by these young people more than others, although we also understand that they came from Dubai," said Minister Ghimire.
He said that the treatment method will be widened by finding out the details of those who have been infected and where they have reached. Ghimire said that the preliminary investigation has revealed that the infected person has reached 251 people and all of them will be tested soon.
He said that the Koshi Zonal Hospital has the capacity to treat 100 infected people and as it could not support them, the process has been taken forward at the BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences in Dharan. Stating that a budget of Rs 10 million has been allocated for the construction of Corona Treatment Center in Udayapur, Ghimire directed the Hospital Development Committee to expedite the process. He said that the treatment had been delayed earlier due to lack of coordination between the three tiers of government.
During the discussion, Chief of the Health Office, Mohan Subedi, informed that there is a lack of skilled manpower, health equipment, safety cover and other materials to work on the front line of treatment. He said that corona was confirmed in 28 out of 405 swab tests conducted in different parts of the district. Triyuga Municipal Chief Baldev Chaudhary drew the attention of the people to conduct swab test of 205 infected people and rapid test of 2100 people. He said that the technical work including collection was inconvenient as the swab test was only in Dharan and Biratnagar.
Despite the decision to seal Udaipur after the number of infected people started increasing, the number of people coming from outside has not stopped due to lack of coordination with other states, said Chief District Officer Deepak Pahadi. "Everyone should act responsibly instead of blaming each other for this and that," he said.
On the occasion, state MPs Bimal Karki, Narayan Burjamagar, Ambika Thapa and District Coordination Committee Chief Khadga Bahadur Pariyar said that the livelihood of farmers and laborers has become difficult as the timber is being added. He informed that the doctors refused to treat the patients and the ambulance drivers refused to carry the patients.
As soon as the number of infected people reached 28, the administration has tightened the timber and sealed the infected area completely. The army, armed forces and Nepal Police have cordoned off the area. The daily life of the locals is becoming uncomfortable after a complete ban on coming and going. The WHO representative in the infected area, Corona, asked the World Health Organization (WHO) representative to understand the situation and the problems caused by it.
